Pain Ontario is a small, growing nonprofit that centres people with lived and living experience of chronic pain. We hire and partner with people who bring intersectional, equity-first practice and who are comfortable working at the intersection of community, research, and policy.
Pain Ontario is hiring a Founding Executive Director — a foundational leadership role to establish governance, secure sustainable funding, and build provincial partnerships for chronic pain care. Fractional consultancy: 65 hours per month over an 18-month contract, with potential to grow. Compensation $100/hour (HST inclusive). Remote, with current Ontario residency required. • Secure sustainable funding (project funding, donorship, philanthropic support)
• Lead proposal development and funding negotiations
• Build provincial relationships
• Prepare the organization for phased program implementation
• Establish governance and operational infrastructure
• Strategic and creative, with the ability to translate vision into action
• Experienced in a start-up context, able to drive new initiatives forward
• Experienced in building or scaling initiatives in healthcare, public systems, or the non-profit sector
• Skilled in fundraising and government funding processes (proposals, pitches)
• Confident navigating complex health system environments
• Operationally strong, with experience in financial oversight and organizational development
• Digitally literate and systems-oriented
• Grounded in equity and community-centred leadership

We open new board seats and committee positions periodically. We particularly want applications from people with lived and living experience of chronic pain across Ontario, including from northern, rural, racialized, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
